Beyond the veil

The game

Every world in Afterlife keeps a soul behind a silhouette. Your job is to uncover it.

You start inside a small safe zone. Hold capture, leave the edge, and draw a line through open territory — close it back on your land and everything you enclosed is yours, the image beneath it revealed. Cut a single bold diagonal and take a fifth of the board at once. Get greedy, and a guardian will cut your line before you close it.

This isn't a slideshow with a minigame attached. Every level is a real fight for space: bosses that hunt you, burn you, steal back what you've claimed — and moments where they tire, cool down and leave an opening. Read them, wait for your chance, and strike.

Each character has three stages and six levels per stage. Clear a level and the next one opens. Clear the sixth, and the final scene comes to life.

Systems

How it plays

Draw & Claim

Hold capture and leave the edge to draw. Close the line and you take exactly the area you traced — no more, no less. Small leftover pockets fill themselves in, so the board always feels clean.

The Guardians

Three bosses, each with its own rhythm. The Sun fires solar bursts, flames and a beam that steals back your territory. The Robot locks on with missiles, slow orbs and lasers. The Centipede digs through your land and sweeps the edges with its laser.

The Opening

Every three attacks, a guardian runs out of steam. The Sun cools down, the Robot powers down, the Centipede goes dormant — for a few seconds, the board is yours.

Arcade Coins

You start the demo with 10 coins. Lose all your lives, insert a coin, and the level restarts at full strength. Run out of coins and it's game over — the demo ends when your coins do.

The Reveal

Every capture uncovers more of the image. Reach the goal and it's yours in full — and every level 6 ends with an animated scene, with sound.

Merlin 3-6 is borderline impossible.
Little mobs full glitch and go through walls. The boss eat faster than you can cover once past 75%.
The "boss cooldown" doesn't matter, because 3 laser stuck you in a place longer than the sleep time.

To make the game more enjoyable to play :

  • Allow travel on borders even if not revealed
  • Allow to move within the picture once covered, to swap from one border to another and be able to outspeeds the mobs.

We also need a gallery to review the scene (maybe its the demo not allowing it?) and an option button working (for sound volume at least).

Thanks for playing and for taking the time to share such detailed feedback!

Afterlife is still in development, and this demo is a beta build focused on the core gameplay with a limited selection of characters. We’re still making changes and improvements, particularly to boss balancing. Boss 3 is the most complex encounter and has been especially challenging to balance, so your feedback on its difficulty and attack timing is helpful.

We also appreciate you pointing out the enemies passing through walls and sharing your movement suggestions. These are useful points to consider as we refine the gameplay.

You’re right about the gallery: it isn’t enabled in the demo, and the options menu isn’t functional in this build either. The demo offers a playable preview of the main mechanics, but it doesn’t include all of the game’s features yet.

Thanks again for giving it a try and helping us improve it!
